Earning a Part Time Salary

Whenever they can, teens should try to earn part time salary, not just to augment the family’s income, but to experience firsthand the value of hard earned money. Learning how to earn money is a life skill which teens will need, sooner or later. Teens will be more conscious of the way they spend their family’s money, if they have experienced working for the money. Consequently, teens will appreciate the idea of budgeting, and prioritizing expenses.

How Much Should Be Expected

Salaries will vary depending on the industry, and it is also determined by the employee’s qualifications. More often than not, full time jobs will pay more than part time jobs. At the same time, teens should not expect the same salary given to a licensed professional. But at the same time, there  are some labor laws governing remuneration so at least the current minimum wage should be observed, and expected.

How To Earn More By Showing More

A worker who is on his first job will generally be paid less than someone with experience. First jobs provide workers the chance to learn the trade, and should be considered as a stepping stone towards earning more in the future. This is true, as well, for jobs part time under 18 year olds. Teens can earn more part time salary if they show competency in their line of work. This is possible, of course, by getting more experience from previous part time jobs.

The following will give teens advantage over less serious youngsters:

  • Learning well
  • Following instructions
  • Showing focus towards work
  • Displaying competency

No matter what kind of work it is, it is very important that teens give the best effort they can, and the rewards will surely come, sooner or later.
